WebJul 4, 2006 · The excavation in 1952-54 by the Devon Archaeological Society showed that the main gate had been an imposing structure (see English Heritage noticeboard photograph to be posted.) It is easily accessible and popular with walkers. A car park right next to its eastern (not original) 'gateway' is level with the interior.
