Lifespan is like 5-7k and I prefer my rifles CL or qpq for double that life or much more and ease of cleaning. It doesn't really matter as long as you keep the chamber clean on unlined.

This is because mil-spec type barrels are chrome-lined first and chrome won't stick to phosphate or any other coating, so bore needs to be raw metal for the CL to work. Those barrels that aren't CL are just rifled and why oiling the bores is so important to prevent rust.
